Character Information
Name: Dylan Andrews
Series: Red vs Blue
Appearance: With armor on, Dylan looks like this. We have no canon description of her without the armor, but I'm using Lyndie Greenwood as a PB.
Age: Much like her appearance, her age is very hard to guess considering we never see her. I headcanon mid-thirties.
Canon Point: 15x21: Epilogue, right as VIC sacrifices himself to destroy the time machine.
Canon History: wiki link!
Personality: Dylan Andrews shot her cameraman in the butt to get closer to a source. She can be ruthless and tenacious when chasing a story, even when it hurts those closest to her. Her singleminded pursuit of the Reds and Blues costs her her job and seriously threatens her marriage, but she can't worry about that until after she had the facts. She’s a journalist, and finding the truth is worth everything.
But it’s important to note, it’s the the truth that’s worth everything. Not just a story. She could just go the same route everyone else did and assume the Reds and Blues had turned evil. It would have been easier, and there was plenty of evidence, and that kind of story would absolutely be a hit. But she wanted their side of the story. Even more than truth, she has integrity. When she reaches Chorus, Dr Grey and Kimball are skeptical of her motives, and with good reason. They wanted to protect their friends, and if Dylan were less principled, she could be trying to exploit their story for her own good. There's a reason the Reds and Blues are in hiding. But her intentions were good, and eventually, her perseverance paid off, and Kimball directed her to the Reds and Blues.
Which is not to say she can't be underhanded and calculating. May I remind you, yet again, she shot her cameraman in the butt. She also blackmailed a senator to reopen peace talks so that Kimball would talk to her. In her interactions with the Reds and Blues, she used the fact that she had a message for them and the fact that they needed her to track the message. She intentionally held off from offering because she'd have a better bargaining position if they approached her. She may love the truth, but she's willing to lie to get it. She can also be petty. Sarge was a jerk to her, so she eventually got him to reveal his real name, something no one else in the show has managed.
She has become more and more aware that her actions have consequences. She may be cocky at times, willing to go the extra mile and take risks because she knows she has a story, but she has paid for her risks. If the cost was just her, it might be easier to handle, but when her actions caused others harm, like when she accidentally pushed Grif away from the team, she felt guilty. She believes in the power of the truth. That doesn't mean she wants people to get hurt. Whatever her flaws, she is always good intentioned.
It's a little more complicated with actions that hurt her relationships. Her boss is very unhappy with her actions and that doesn't seem to cause her much remorse, but she does regret pushing her husband away. To some extent she expects people to stop putting up with her. It's doubtful Frank is the first cameraman to leave her. She's abrasive and hard on people and a whole lot to deal with. She's surprised when Jax wants to continue working with her after the aforementioned butt shooting incident, and her attitude towards him softens considerably after that. Initially, she was frustrated by his incompetence, his attitude, and the fact that he was foisted on her after her original cameraman quit. He got the brunt of her frustration. But once he proves he'll stick by her, she stops pushing him quite as hard.
Under her professional armor and serious demeanor, she does have a sense of humor, even if she doesn't let it out much. In her phone, her husband is labeled "Hubby boo" and her boss is "Grumpy McBossypants." She also has way too much fun fooling a guard with lines like "We have an LOL RPG upstairs with a BPRD of over 5000." She's capable of having fun, it just doesn't tend to be a high priority for her.
Abilities: Dylan's main talent is pursuit of THE TRUTH!! Her skills tend to be in support of this goal. She can track where a digital message came from and do investigative work. She's got decent aim and is in good physical shape. She doesn't have any exceptional powers or anything. She's just a woman in futurey space armor.
Inventory: Okay bear with me while I pretend I understand anything about halo:
Her gun is a custom painted Magnum. Likely M6B because that's common for civilians. I'll give her three magazines of ammunition.
Her armor is Legionnaire class and she has an Intruder class helmet. While canon never specifies the full range of her armors' ability, but going off of the halo wiki description of armor combined with her actual needs, hers is probably modified to be higher on defense capabilities. So:
- bodysuit
- heads up display with readout of vitals/equipment status and motion sensor. Though her cameraman does most of the filming, hers also has the ability to record.
- energy shielding to enhance the already substantial armor thing
- biofoam injectors (emergency wound sealing)
- magnetic strips, generally for holding weapons, but she has recording devices and a simple tablet for note taking.
- pressure seal for underwater/space survival
- autorepair for the armor
- the armor is also ai compatible, though the specific ai she has is no longer there
